RE: watch rv amps

I thought it was common knowledge that you need 50 amp to run two a/cs.
Well I'm a little surprised you didn't do a better job of due diligence before the purchase. It's pretty much common knowledge
Common Knowledge to folks who either spend a LOT of time here or have been RV'ing for long enough to have learned this the hard way.....
Lighten up folks! The OP is new to this game & to this site. The dealer didn't educate them properly (Gasp!) and this came as a shock (pardon the pun). So they tried to do what this site is all about, namely spread their new-found knowledge. Just because we may know it doesn't mean we need to jump all over them for telling us....the circles where this is 'common knowledge' are pretty small. :) We're it !!!

RE: How do you have the TV on while driving

In a mid-90's Coachmen Calls-A that we had, there was a 12v relay that was de-energized when the RV was running, to prevent the driver from being distracted I'm sure. A previous owner had disabled that relay so it would work all the time.
We drove from NY to FL many times with no legal issues but that's no promise that you won't.

RE: Any other boaters??

Avid boater here (hence the name!) from Upstate NY. I live on the bank of one of the best rivers in the world! We live here year-round with an 85' dock reaching out towards Boldt Castle with the ships plying the main channel between here & there. Paradise. As for boats:
-2003 SeaRay 30' Sundancer with twin engines (Eirene = Peace, as in the absence of turmoil).
-2002 SeaDoo 20' Utopia with a single 210HP jet-engine (L-N-oar = ....well, watch Gone in 60 Seconds; you'll catch on ;) ).
-1956 Crestliner 14' v-hull (my first boat (it's 5 years older than I am!)& it's been my son's since he was 2).
-2000 Avon 10' inflatable with a trolling motor (my daughter's; she calls it "Air-head")
We do our summer vacation on the boat & fall/winter/spring vacations in the RV. L-N-Oar is new too us so it'll probably make some of our winter-runs with us. It would have been pretty nice off of the Key West this past Feb! :D Maybe next year.

RE: LIVING ON THE EDGE (CHECK IT OUT)

I don't think I'd walk that trail for a new TC of my choice, a truck to put it on, and a years supply of diesel. Gary:E
You had me at "a years supply of diesel"......

RE: Walmart RV/Marine batteries?

I'll second the Sam's options. They have true deep-cycle 12v plus they also have 6v GC batteries for a good price & the replacement convienence, although the replacement part isn't something I've had to test (I had about 3 years on a set when I sold a camper a while back).

RE: Truck fire w/pics

Rain alone did that? Wow. I'd have thought you'd need something in that rain to act as an electrolyte. Must have picked something up along the line!
I've gotten my doors (& their switches) SOAKED before with nothing like that!
I wonder if there was just a split in the protective membraine on the switch and/or the loam.

RE: Bad day at the lake!

I've launched/pulled boats with just about every type of vehicle known to man (& most woman) but I haven't tried it with my RV......yet. There would be a acid-fountain in my tummy as I backed it slowly down the ramp, good insurance or not.
That being said, I am sure I could do it & I am sure others do it successfully. It's not my call to make for them. However, if I ever do, I'll make sure my wife has the video-camera going....just in case. ;) Gotta' keep my fellow-RVer's smilin'!

RE: mileage

My '97 F350 7.3L PSD has close to 200k. I've seen several go for between $8000-$12000 on Ebay with between 200k & 300k.

Electric gives you better control.
Surge can be used with any tow vehicle (don't need a controller).

RE: Campers With Motorcycles

That is why I want to get a car trailer, so I can take the Vulcan AND the Jeep AND the tools, AND whatever else I can get on there without overloading anything.
Cant do it with four down, can't do it with a dolly. Trailer is the only thing that will get 'er done...
That's exactly why I just bought an 18' tandom-axle..... :D

You may know what a B.S. stands for, well...
an M.S. stands for "More of the Same..." and
a Ph.D. stands for "Piled higher and Deeper..." :B
OK, so who 'moderates' the moderator when THEY cross the line ??? ;)

RE: What did they do to my truck? Ford/Dealer rant!

WOW $750 for an alternator? What dealer did you go to? You can buy the alternator at Napa for $75 and its the same one the dealer used. It takes 30 min to do. I lied it took me 45 min but I had to go get a 30 pack.
hpk
Um...are you thinking about an '84 Chevy 350 ? :D LOL
NAPA's (on-line) price for a refurb for his truck ranges from $180 to $310 (depending on amps & belt-grooves)....for REFURB! A Chevy alternator (same year, like model) ranges from $130 to $215, again for refurb. Dodge had two models, $145 or $175. Diesels tend to be at the top end, with two batteries & cold weather starts.
That's without shipping or labor, etc, etc. but he's dealing with a stealership, after-all. $75 alternators are gone with the $1/gallon gas. Not bashing you, man....just trying to keep things straight.

RE: Another Ford cruise control recall!!

I'm assuming, since you're posting this in the 'C' section, that you are bringing this to the attention of folks with an RV built on a '95-'97 chassis.
If so, check the VIN on the dash & look at the 10th charactor (letter or number)because it doesn't mean the RV's year, but the rather the chassis' (with an 'S', 'T', or 'V' in the 10th position of the VIN number for '95, '96 & '97, respectively).
On edit, I see the Econoline entry afterwards! That would include P for '93, R, S, T, V, W, X, Y, 1, 2, or 3 for 2003.

RE: How to know you are living in a small town.....

You know you're in a small town when:
-a town council meeting, the PTA meeting & family devotions all have the same people at them. ;)
-they have to widen the main street to paint the yellow line down the middle. :D
